Kennedy Art
An E-commerce Website for Ireland's Oldest Art Supplies Shop
“We have been working with Niall on our website for the past two years. His fresh approach to design and enthusiastic “can do” attitude were what caused us to engage him in the first place. As a large specialist retailer the move from a clunky site of a few pages to a fully fledged e-commerce system was daunting, to put it mildly. At all stages Niall was most helpful, both in suggestions and work done. Nothing was ever too much trouble and he would stick at each and every problem until it was resolved. The wonderful world of the wide web is ever evolving and this was especially true for a site as complex as ours, where working in WordPress and WooCommerce we were really pushing at the boundaries of what could be achieved. This resulted in many re-writes to come up with a combination that would work together at an acceptable speed. On top of this was exhaustive work on speeding up the site once the main structure was in place. All of this was done on time and within budget.
Finally “the future of the web is mobile” or so we are told – Niall put a very attractive and responsive front end on to our site to enable it to work on mobile devices.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Niall for any web project – large or small
Fionnbarr Kennedy, Co-owner, Kennedy Art
I was honoured to be able to build an e-commerce website for Ireland’s Oldest Art Supplies Shop. Kennedy Art now has over 6,100 products being sold online. We needed a clear & precise method of, not only, mass uploading product details & images but automatically allowing easy updates product details such as price & delivery costs.
Products upon upload had to appear in & create the hierarchical menu system (using the products’ categories). Special attention then had to be given to making the menu user-friendly on desktop & devices. On smartphones the number of menu items meant we used a side-menu which slides in from the left.
Another challenge was to find an easy way of pricing deliveries with a variety of products from paintbrushes to easels.
Throughout the development stage, attention was given to the website performance as such a large database of products and images could adversely affect the site’s speed.
As with any e-commerce site the goal is sales & Kennedy Art has seen steady and increasing orders from throughout Ireland & aboard. SEO visibility for related terms is excellent and the client also sees an increase in shop visitors due to the website. The site also advertises it’s weekly and monthly art events.
Whilst the site build had many challenges, it is very satisfying to have created an effective multi-function site that both looks great & furthers Kennedy Art’s business goals.
